from urban city views to natural parks

The Greater Birmingham Area is home to a variety of picturesque outdoor locations that are ideal for photo sessions. Below are a few favorites, listed in no particular order.

White railing overlooks a serene pond reflecting green trees, with a barn and pavilion on a lush rural property.

Suburban Farm

Located in Hoover, Oris & Oak is a newer event venue that offers a charming blend of elegance and rustic appeal. For those who love the aesthetic of a farm setting without the presence of animals, this venue provides the perfect balance. The property features a serene pond, a picturesque gazebo, stretches of classic white fencing, a spacious pavilion, and a stunning covered bridge. A magnificent oak tree—part of the inspiration behind the venue’s name—anchors the landscape, complete with a beautiful swing suspended from its strong, graceful branches.

Birmingham in Bloom

Birmingham Botanical Gardens is hard to beat for photoshoots of any kind—families, couples, weddings, prom, or senior sessions. With a variety of stunning spaces like the Rose Garden, Southern Living Garden, and Japanese Garden, it truly offers something for everyone. It’s nearly impossible to choose a favorite spot because each area brings its own unique charm and beauty.

Green in the City

Railroad Park-  is a vibrant urban green space in the heart of downtown Birmingham and a go-to spot for all kinds of sessions. Known for its open lawn, tree-lined ponds, and lush plant life, it offers a beautiful mix of natural and city elements. In early October, rows of pink muhly grass create a soft, eye-catching backdrop that adds an extra wow factor to your photos. One of my favorite locations within the park is the pedestrian bridge, which is perfect for photographing larger groups. And of course, it wouldn’t be Railroad Park without the occasional train passing by—time it just right, and you might catch one rolling through your background.

Historic Charm

Downtown Birmingham’s historic Morris Avenue is a go-to for good reason—there’s incredible variety packed into one location. From cobblestone streets and the iconic red caboose to charming gates, textured doors, and beautiful architecture, it’s hard to go wrong here. Just steps away, the Rainbow Wall adds a fun pop of color that instantly brightens any session. You’ll also find several great eateries and a few local shops nearby, making it easy to turn your photo shoot into a full outing. And don’t miss a stop at Alabama Peanut Co. for a tasty, one-of-a-kind treat.

Color and Light

Nestled around 3rd Avenue North, you’ll find the Alabama Theatre and the Lyric Theatre—two iconic landmarks in downtown Birmingham. For a truly striking shot, plan to take photos in front of their glowing marquee signs at night for an unforgettable city vibe. Just one block away, Pizitz Food Hall offers not only a great place to grab a bite, but also a courtyard filled with colorful murals that create perfect photo backdrops. In fact, the surrounding blocks are filled with vibrant street art, adding a playful and whimsical touch to your photos.

*Most of these locations are free to the public but some may require a fee or permission to photograph on their property. It is always best to check first.
